Default 1976 corvette engine rebuild

I have a 1976 corvette that just recently had a major engine "event." After taking it to a local shop they said the engine would need to be rebuilt. Has anyone gone through this terrible experience before? How much did it cost to fix this? I am considering cutting my losses and selling it. I had a new paint job done, a lot of interior work and rewiring. It has roughly 75,000 miles. Any ideas on how much I could get for the car or how much I would need to deduct from the price to be fair to me and the buyer? Any help would be much appreciated! I might even buy you some beer and I am willing to send beer to any corner in the world! Thanks!

Is nothing special , just another SBC engine
If you are $$$ strapped just buy a used 350 engine from the junkyard and install it

What does major engine event mean?
Could be anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand depending on what the problem is.

Even with a blown engine as long as the body and interior is in great shape you could probably cut your losses for between $3500 and $4500 bucks to the right buyer. You can get a Long Block in a crate for about $1500 bucks. They even carry rebuilt L82 engines for about the same price. Then all you have to do is install it. I installed a L82 crate engine into my 1972 El Camino in 3 days back when I was younger. Now it would probably take about 5 days.

Rebuilding a L48 is not very cheap probably around $2500 to $3000 would be my guess at a shop. Not sure what they quoted you but it would take a week or 2 for them to rebuild it depending on what internal parts needed to be replaced. Crate or used engines are alot quicker if you do not care about matching numbers. Nice thing is any L48 or L82 engine will drop right in using parts from the old engine.
