Default Restoring Frame

So Im going to start my restore with the frame. Is there a kit recommended with everything needed, bushings, break lines, rotors, etc? Im not looking for a performance setup just a good cruiser.

There are a lot of kits for restoring different parts of the suspension. There are other Corvette parts sites that probably carry kits but I primarly use Ecklers. There is not just one kit to cover it all and you will probably need to buy multiple kits to get it all replaced. I am doing mine one step at a time and in multiple projects to restore the suspension and drive train.

I purchased a kit from here for my front steering linkage when it needed to be rebuilt and was able to get almost all the parts in 2 kits except for the Steering Control unit and Power Steering Cylinder.

Over the winter I will be purchasing a complete rear end bushing and bolt kit for my rear suspension because it is the next major project that needs to be done.

Id like to get a kit with all the bushings and maybe a separate kit with break kit. That way I dont have to buy everything individually.

Mike it looks like even with the site that Dennis suggested you will have to purchase seperate kits but I do like the site he suggested. Never ran across this web site before and they do have more complete kits if you are doing a complete restoration

Don't do it. AKA FastCorvette.com and a joke of a company.

Do a search and you will see for yourself.

The best thing to do is look for the forum vendor sales and buy what you need. There is no single 'kit' for restoring a frame. I have bought different kits from VB&P, Van Steel, Corvette Central, Willcox for various parts of my frame rebuild. I haven't bought anything from Eckler's since they seem to re-sell other vendors products for premium prices.

I have a VB&P Street & Slalom suspension kit, VB&P O-ring caliper kit, Van Steel trailing arm assemblies, and (I think) Corvette Central stainless brake lines. If you want nicer front a-arms both VB&P and Van Steel have their own designs.

Not really sure what they did (to SS164) but they were professional with all the answers to my questions, sent my parts out in a timely manner and everything works like it should (shrug) they were good to me and all the parts were good quality. Fit like they were supposed to and work fine....no issues.
I'm not saying EVERYONE run out and buy from these guys but just sharing my experience.

There is a LOT to choose from out there and I don't think you'll get everyone to agree on one vendor. Obviously SS had a bad experience.
I don't know what Fastcorvettes is but I couldn't find anything.

You're right, no vendor will have 100% feedback. I personally use Zip Corvette. Why? They are right up the road (packages in 2 days or less). If I have a problem with a part, they immediately ship out a replacement, they do not wait to receive my part back.

I purchased Zip's TBW brake lines, fairly close to original looking.

Fortunitly Zip is only 30 miles from work so I will likely use them. In my mind I was thinking that buying a kit would be easier just because it is all packaged. The truth is most places would probably know exactly what I need anyway.

I think you can ship the frame to Van Steel and they'll populate it.. See their catalog. Last I looked, their prices was pretty reasonable. Van Steel is a forum sponsor.

I started out with a bare frame. I'm looking for performance however.
Front suspension has control arms and spindles from ebay. Front suspension is from VBP. Brake lines from InLine Tube in stainless steel.
Rear suspension is Tom's Differential, super 10 bolt. Rear composite spring by VBP, Brakes by Stainless Steel Brake Corporation, Quanta fuel tank, McLeod dual disk, TKO-600 five speed, Keith Black BB block, Black billet crank,Brodix heads, GM SB Serpentine front accessory drive adapted for a BB. Have purchased the interior in repro pieces. I drive the 68 with limited mileage insurance of $350 a year here in So California!! (

Still got a lot of work. The block needs pistons, rods, etc.($$$$) Need to get a radiator/electric fan package. Need to have the front end clip replaced(!!!) And then a paint job. I try not to dwell on the question as to whether I'll ever get it done, I just concentrate on the next few steps. Actually this is not my first project. I did everything like this on the 68, but I have got the 68 pretty much finished. (door glass and a paint job). I drive the 68 with full insurance coverage at $350 a year for limited mileage! This is in Los Angeles.
