Default 78 Rear Sag ?

Recently got a 78 .. I have noticed that the rear of the car is about 1 3/4 inches lower than the front .. Is there any way to bring it up level or just a little higher ? I thought I had read that there were bolts that could adjust the height . Thanks

follow the transverse leaf springs to each end. tighten nut on that long bolt ..if you do not have enough threads left to raise it, use washers or spacers ..if you increase it a lot, you will need to adjust cam on strut rods to straighten up tire

Hi,

If you want to lift the rear a little more than 1 3/4" you will need shorter bolts or a new spring.

New oem style springs made a huge difference on my '71.
It had a stack of washers on each bolt when I got it in 2007, and the front coil springs had seen better days after 40 years.

I'm not a fan of treating symptoms, but rather fixing the actual problem. Replace the springs if you can afford it.

The 2 bottom pics are from before I replaced mine. The front springs actually appeared worse than the back because of all the washers someone added to the back before I got it. You can see how low the fenders were over the wheels.

The difference in handling was quite dramatic.

of course replacing the fatigued rear transverse spring is a solution to the lower ride height. but since the OP just got the car, and seems not to have that much mechanical background, he would have the cost of a new spring, and a shop s labor to install it. if money is no concern, then by all means do that.. but he asked if he could raise the rear slightly by the bolts.. and he can , by adding washers or using a shorter bolt... cost , maybe $2 and 20 minutes ..

Can someone tell me exactly what I would need to do to add the washers, I assume that I can't just take the castle nut off without some type off support to the spring ?? Any info would be fantastic ..

do you have a floor jack? place it under one end of leaf near the bolt and lift til the bolt is loose enough to fit your washers , then do other side.. the washers go on the bottom .. if you don t get enough desired lift, go to a parts store and get two shorter bolts

This is one suggestion that will work. I used a piece of wood and a c-clamp. You just need something so the jack will not slide up the spring.
