Yeah, but how much does the C3 need to appreciate before it's worth the asking price?

Before I bought my Vette I spent about 6 months researching numbers etc. because I wanted a number matching car. After I started looking at "numbers matching" cars only to find stuff like you're finding with this car I gave up wanting one. I found out I didn't want to pay the premium for a Top Flight car so I bought a car without the original motor so I could Mod it. I'm glad I did because some resto-mod cars a fetching big bucks these days.

Very well stated!

If it needs to appreciate for 5 years before you reach the price they are asking for... it defeats the purpose!

Hope you are right on the resto-mods! If so... I may have one for sale soon if the price is right! You never know... I may do a big block chrome bumper next!

He has been around for quite a few years, doing a large number of export sales. A lot of his cars are on consignment. He does get top dollar.

Great looking car, but for his price I would not want to make any mistakes.

Ask to see the title and ask to talk to the previous/current owner and make sure the guy matches whose name is on the title. Being a Florida dealer, he just fills in the back of the title as any other possible dealers have. The registered owner will still be on the front. Issue date also tells a lot. Previous state titled will also be shown.

I would want to see the kick panels removed.

The car looks pretty awesome to me! If you'd like a second set of eyes... I'd love to shoot up! How bad can it be to spend a few hours looking over a Vette?! I'm down in Miami, not a big deal and an excuse to take my toy out for a drive! ;-)
thanks for the pledge to meet up with me. It does not appear price negotiation is going to be that simple. When I was there asking his assistant told me the owner of the shop is firm on the price because he knows what he has. (Whatever that means) I'm gonba shoot you a pm for additional discussion and see if you think this car is with anyones consideration. Best regards.

Is there any reason the price is a secret? It's a car not a God.

Went to look at this car again. Had long discussion with shop owner. It is a consignment car. There needs to be some funds touches. The buyer will end up with a car that the air will work as well as vacuum. He is also doing finishing touches on rear chrome. The interior code is 400 so current owner decided to upgrade on own. Sunflower yellow is on trim tag. Car started right up and sounds great. He stressed this is not a ncrs car but a beautiful car that can be driven. Perfect new paint. It will have fresh tires put on it. He is gonna really make it as perfect as possible. He did say fiber optics can be tricky but some are working. The undercarriage is amazing. The stamp is numbers matching. I took a pic as best I can. I have to get another pair if eyes to look at this one. I love the fact this is a local car and the shop owner has been here for years.

First, what's the asking price. Second, why no pictures of the trim tag and block stamping. Without seeing them, you still don't have a clue what the car really is, or how legitimate it is.

As 69fastfun said, 71 coupes all came standard with shoulder belts, and that car is missing them. From what I see, they may not be 71 lap belts either. If the belts are wrong, your looking at $500+, for real ones.

It it's a real Custom Interior (the leather option) car, it should have wood trim on the console. You need to see the trim tag, to determine if it's a vinyl interior car, that has had leather seat covers and Custom door panels added, or a Custom interior car, missing the console wood grain trim.

Under the hood, the car has the wrong air cleaner lid, and it's missing the breather tube and hose, that run from the valve cover to the air cleaner. The water outlet's also wrong, and the routing of the heater hose is a little funky. If you really want to nit pick, the brackets for the shielding top box, should be engine color.

Considering that the compressor is unplugged, I'd bet that the AC doesn't work, and that either the compressor or it's clutch, are bad.

None of these things are a big deal, but instead just minor items, that you should be aware of. To replace the air cleaner lid, it's breather tube and hose, the water outlet, and add the console wood grain trim, will cost you about $200. If all the AC needs is a rebuilt compressor, they're about $300 exchange. If you replace the belts, your looking at another $500. So from what I see, for about $1,000 in parts (plus labor), I think you'd have a pretty decent and correct 71 coupe.

Of course, all of that still depends, on what the trim tag and block stamping look like.

Start by using only one punctuation mark at the end off each sentence.
