Default can I replace a speedo light without removing dash?

My speedo light is out and my tac light is fine on my 77' I was wondering the location of the speedo light bulb and if i can access it without removing the gauge or the dash or the steering column.

I replaced all of the dash lights on my 77 a couple of months ago. Yes, you have to remove the dash to get to them from the back. If your going to do it, might as well get all of them because it's a PITA!

I tried on my 77 but was only able to get to the lower directional signal bulbs.

And put in LED's - you don't want to back there again.

To specifically answer your question, you can generally reach two of them by removing the lower air duct, it isnt hard, however there are five in total for the speedo so you should remove the unit and get all 5, as mentioned above, replace with LED's, makes a huge difference and will last a lot longer. Dont be scared to remove your speedo, it is simple, I have had mine out doaens of times and every time without removing any steering column bits, however it is WAY easier if you at least remove the steering wheel, takes 5 minutes to do.

Kev, that right up was fantastic. I copied into a Word document to make my own comments and keep it forever. Your document included links to pictures you posted and I am finding that most of those links disappear over the years as people come and go, so I embedded the pictures into my document.

I also modified the order of removing the steering wheel cover before moving the left dash pad (worked better with the pictures) and included the warning about hanging the steering column.

Still, fantastic, I removed my instrument cluster last night and didn't know exactly what to do next.

I want to update the document with LED lights too.

Thanks

I'll repeat one of my earlier posts - the speedo/tach dash pad . I'd first try getting a (real) skinny had up there while lying on you back trying to see what's going on under the dash.
