Default Fuel trouble???

I just drove down my street in my 76 which has never missed a beat. As I crossed the intersection and put my foot on the accelerator it died. I put it in park and turned the key again and it started, then when I put my foot on the accelerator it died again. Now it won't start at all, it turns but doesn't start. I am just waiting on a tow truck, but I am thinking a fuel problem. It has a full tank and I am a novice at engine repairs, so any tips on what to try or where to look would be appreciated.

Cheers
Kev

remove the air cleaner assembly. Assuming you have the stock Quadrajet, hold open the choke blade on the primary side. While looking down the throat of the primary side open the throttle and you should see two streams of gasoline shoot into the throat. If not you do have a fuel related issue. When is the last time the fuel filter was changed? Can you disconnect the fuel line to the carb and while cranking the engine for a few seconds see if gasoline comes out the line?

I did disconnect the fuel line at the carb and when I had someone turn the engine over, nothing came out for about 10 seconds, then some tiny dribbles of fuel came out. So I have ordered in a fuel pump, presuming it is either that or a blocked fuel line from the tank, but that seems less likely to me (based on very very little experience).

Sounds like the fuel pump. If not that, then either a clogged line ( doubtful ), or the sock in your tank collapsed.
