Harmonic balancer
Ok, I done some research on the forums and most of what I read was on the later vetted, I have a 79 L82, was driving home after a 100 mile ride and the balancer just came off, is it ok to just purchase a new balancer or do I need to have anything else? Is a oem replacement ok?, ran the numbers on the block and it is a 87 out of a vette, does that make any difference, looks as though they just used the block, and used everything else off the 79

Did the outer ring come off or the whole balancer? If the whole thing came off, you need to measure the end of the crank to make sure it's not undersize compared to a new one. Just the outer ring, have your parts people check and see if their catalog shows the same part number for both years.

thanks, I miss stated the year, it is out of a 86, but I will do what you suggested, I had no idea where to begin, the pulleys and balancer came off, looks to be a sleeve on the back side of the balancer, it got a couple of nicks when it came off, is it possible there was never a bolt holding it on? I could not see any indication on the outside of the balancer of a washer, I bought it in Evansville in 2010, drove it home, 150 miles, since have just drove it 20 or 25 miles once and awhile until last weekend, glad I had AAA.
