My turn signal relay keeps blowing. Does anyone have any suggestions to narrow the search? I checked all the bulbs and wires to each light and everything looks good. Could there be something loose in the steering wheel assembly?
I feel your pain and hope someone here can help you. I was in a similar quandry as you not too long ago. I was going out of my mind chasing gremlins in my 68. I, and a friend tried locating the "obvious" shorts, but couldnt isolate The source. After going down "rabbit holes" in futility, I gave up and brought it to Shore Vettes in south Jersey and in no time at all, Patrick found multiple issues contributing to my electrical issues. After replacing the forward harness, signal switch and a light housing in one day, I have been driving almost daily since that day back in May without any issues. If you aren't successful on your own, I recommend contacting Patrick at Shore Vettes since you are only an hour away.
Electrical problems are one of the hardest to trace down. It could be a short in the steering wheel assembly causing the problem. Many of these parts are plastic and can dry rot and crack or just wear out over the years.
On my 1977 the horn switch blew apart one day while sitting at a traffic light. I was 4 cars back and the light was red. To think what the people in front of me thought while I was driving down the road with my horn blowing constantly until I was able to pull off the road and disconnect my horns. I ended up just having to replace a dry rotted horn switch where the plastic rivits had cracked and caused the horn to blow. I at the same time the courtisy light switch under the hood had gone bad and was also causing a battery drain. Battery would go dead in 2 or 3 days of not driving the car.
Here are 2 parts to look at replacing since I do not know if yours has the telescopic/tilt steering wheel or just a standard steering wheel. This may or may not be your problem but since you looked at the harness at the bulbs this would be the next place I look.
