Default This vette worth buying?

It's at the local classic dealership. Asking price 38K.

Wow! When I first started the video and saw the extreme custom styling, I thought I wasn't going to like it. But after realizing it was truly a Greenwood custom build and had been designed from head-to-toe, I started changing my first impression.

The only big drawback for me is the huge blower sticking out of the hood. If he had kept the engine more reasonable, my opinion is that it would be more sleek and stylish, plus a whole lot easier to drive. However, that could be changed after you buy it.

If you're in to customs, this could be a great buy!

The advantage you will have is that you are familiar with Corvettes and will know what to look for and make an informed decision. I have seen the car in person and it is a beauty. If I were to buy it I would probably take the blower off and replace the hood with a regular turbo hood and I would be very happy with it. The blower is a bit much, but the rest of the car would be great for me personally.

I bought my first Corvette from there a few months ago, and I paid a premium for a car that showed well but probably wasn't worth what I paid. I do love my car, but it has some issues that are common to Corvettes that I didn't know to look for back when I was shopping. PM me and we can talk more if you like.

Worth buying? Only if you want it.

Yes, that is the car I bought. I do love it, but it has left my wife and I stranded twice. I took it to a Corvette Specialist in Virginia, and he looked the car over and gave me a laundry list of things that need to be fixed. I am OK with that now, and will just work my way down the list once I go get the car from his shop. It is important to me that the car be reliable, and that I can trust it will always get me (more importantly, me and my wife) home.

I understand that a nearly 40 year old car will not be perfect, but some of the things that were stated in the video were simply not true. But...I will make this car into what I want it to be...a little at a time. I do have a great starting point.

What? That is not good to hear. I thought the car was in near perfect shape. It had new paint, suspension and crate motor as I can recall.

Your vette was originally listed at 25K and they dropped it to 20K because it sat too long at the dealership.

Also, Corvette Specialist you speaking of is in Chantilly VA? If it is, they do not have the best rep. Curry's auto service in Chantilly is the one you may want to have any work done if needed.

My colleague was eyeing that vette you bought for several months also but never followed through.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Corvette and will sometimes just go into the garage to look at it. I was looking for a driver, not a show car, hence the reason reliability is so important to me.

There is much about the car that is in really great shape, but some hidden things that will require some attention, like the radiator support that is badly rusted and a leaky radiator. It appears the front and rear seals in the engine are leaking, so I have been researching how to replace those as well. This forum has provided a great deal of information about the problems I have experienced, and will continue to do so I am sure. Like I said, I will learn how to fix as much of this as I can and enjoy that part of Corvette ownership as well.

Getting back to your original post though, I think the Greenwood car is fantastic. Having visited the Greenwood race shops in Detroit in the late 70's I have a special feeling about Greenwood Corvettes. I tried to get a job there right after high school before they moved to Florida...no dice though. So I joined the Air Force instead.

Does it come with Greenwood documentation ? If interested I would want to speak with the former owner for more information. True someone put alot of cash into this vehicle but how easy is it to get it back ? When you want to sell is there a niche for this ?

I know that car also. It is a really nice ride. I have no idea what it's worth, so can't help you there. I know the owner was very picky about everything on it. It is a show stopper for sure! If you go for it, good luck with it.
