Repair Hood Damage (self inflicted) -PICS included
Need help from the Body Shop experts.
I was pushing my '79 around in the garage to make more access room to the passenger side to get to the starter and while the hood was up, I ran the tip of the hood into one of my "out-of-the-way" shelves and busted the corner:
Here are some other views to detail where the break is located:
That "chunk" you see there is still intact and looks like it can be re-used:
and one from the inside:
So, do I apply resin to the inside of the "chunk" and re-attach it to the hood then use body filler, OR, do I rip it off like a scab and start from scratch?
All input, advice, opinions, and criticisms will be accepted!
Thanks!
TOM

Here's what I'd do, but don't take my word for it.( English is not my main language so I might use incorrect terms sometimes).
I'd separate the broken part, grind off all the fiberglass "straw", on both sides just keep solid fiberglass.
On each side (broken part side and hood side) grind a large (1 inch) bevel.
Make a jig of some sort on the back just to put the broken piece at the right place.
Glass the gaps building on the bevel you made.
Doing this way you'll have to redo the paint, dunno if it's avoidable.

You should post this in the Paint/Body section and DUB will be along in a day or two and get his expert advise. Denpo outlined it fairly well.....good luck on the matching the metal flake paint
