Default Rear Corvette Emblem

Hey guys,

Could someone post pics of what the correct corvette words should look like on the back bumper. My 75 seems to have a 76 or 77 emblem back there. I'm hoping that it is not a different bumper than what came on the car originally.

Also how is the best way to get to the emblem to replace it?

Thanks!

My '75 has individual letters not an emblem. They recess into the bumper.

Is there a nut for every individual letter? I've looked under the car trying to see how to get the current emblem off to replace but I can't get to it. There is a fiberglass pannel in the way. I'm hoping if there is a hole in the bumper for every individual letter, my car already has those cut out.

The 75 bumper had 8 indentations, that the letters were slightly recessed into. Each letter is individually attached. There are two pins on the back of each letter, one of them gets a speed nut on it and the other is just to help correctly position the letter.

If your bumper doesn't have the indentations for the letters, it's a 76-79 rear bumper, and it sounds like you have the 76-79 rear emblem too. If you do have a 76-79 rear emblem, you'll have a hard time installing the 75 emblems, because the holes are positioned differently.

My early '76 (long A/C compressor and other things) has a 'recessed cover' with the word Corvette spelled out in one word held down by a retaining bar and speed nuts on the underside.

Thanks for the help. Apparently my vette has had a new bumper put on at some point. I'm a little aggrivated that it wasn't replaced with the bumper that belonged on the car!

Where is the best place to buy a new bumper? I've checked some out on corvette central website and they have two kinds. Supposedly they have one that is more flexible than the original and fits better. The paint is suppose to match up better as well. Thoughts?

I just purchased a tru flex rear bumper from willcox corvette off ebay for $274.00. I've done some research on line and read good things about them. I don't expect it to fit perfect right out of the box . I heard a little trimming is needed. I also purchased the rear emblems from them. They have some great deals online.

You probably have one of these..
76 early is 6.25" long and the late to 1979 is 8.25 long. They pretty much look the same... the long one was more common to use as a replacement.

Flexy covers are in the forum special section.. use the current sale code and you'll save 10 percent off that price.

There were a number of years that original '75 bumpers were not available. You can now buy reproductions but the letter indentations for CORVETTE are not as crisp and well defined. I have a flexiglass replacement on mine and it fits fine.

one thing that made people change it to the later model style was the cost of the 74 bumper itself.74 bumper was always higher than the 76 79 style bumper.
another thing was that people would change them to make their car for the most part look like a newer car.

ahhhhhhh I see. I will probably go with a new flex bumper and make it back like original. It bothers me that the bumper isn't right.
