Default Car Ports/Covers

Wish this could be posted to all groups.

Does anybody own a carport like the ones advertised on this site?
I want to get one an have looked into Empire, Northstar & Portable Garage.... they seemed to be the best from searches.

I was looking into a 12x20-24 foot one. Some have rounded tops and most have the classic sloped roof pitch.
I live in New England so it should be a good one for my climate. I do intend on beefing it up a bit and adding some insulation and pouring a concrete pad for my car to sit on.

A friend has had one for about 7 years and likes his. He bought it at BJs but I am not a member and neither is he anymore.

Was looking for some feedback from fellow forum members so I could get a good one. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!!!

I'm also going to be getting one shortly.
I used to have one for my boat. Twice the wind lifted it and threw it in the back yard! I realize there are anchor kits - I had made concrete weights for each leg.
This time, since it's for the Vette, I want a quality canopy and will anchor it correctly. Our Pa winters may not be quite as bad but I still need one to withstand lots of snow.
Hmmm, a thought just crossed me mind. I wonder if you mixed up some Rain-X and treated the canopy - would that make the snow not pile up as much??

Nice idea with the Rain X... bet it would work.

Were you looking at the rounded ones or the regular roof pitch look?
I think I might get the rounded one. I am pouring a pad and will have the frame anchored in the ground and to the PT form for the concrete. I think it would be best to have the pad a few inches above the ground, dual anchor the frame and bury a bit of the cover so water will flow off and away from the Vette.

Do you have any preferences as to maker yet? Empire looks pretty good, so do the others. Hope a current owner will chime in and tell us how good his car port is.

I have had mine for 4 years with no problems. I would suggest getting it insulated. Mine was bought locally but it's no different from any other sold throughout the country. Mine is 24x44 with a concrete slab and I had a 24x20 concrete slab poured in front. I put a 2x4 studded wall around the inside parameter so I could hand tools etc. Heres a few pictures.

Hade a 7 inch snow the first year it was built. That doesn't happen to often in Mississippi!!

I have seen some great deals on e-bay. You have to have the concrete work done but you don't pay for the total costs until it is finished. Hope this helps you make a decision.

Thanks for your input DT & Mark. Appreciate it.

Curious Mark, did you have to get a permit for your garage? I would think at that size and made of metal they would have classified it a structure and it would need a permit and its location would have to fit into the local laws like 25' off the front line and 15' off the side line etc.

Pretty sweet looking, power, workbenches, tools and parts everywhere. NICE
