I want to change the shifter boot in the car but I can't figure out how to get the plate up. (plate with the 1-4 gears and R diagram) I think it is bolted down but I cant get at them because of the rubber armrest \ parking break cover. Some instruction would be great.
I have an AIM but I couldn't find the section that deals with this.
I have 1980. I need to replace the boot. So whatever that entails. In my mustang, I can get the whole center console up in 5min. But this doesn't look to be that easy.
you can probably change the boot by just taking out the drivers seat and drivers side panel off. the 4 bolts tht hold the boot in come out from the top. then with the side panel off, you can finagle the boot on and off after you remove the shift ****

I cannot believe the engineers thought it was a good idea to design the car so that you have to remove the seats from the car in order to get at anything in the center console.
Quick question, I was able to drop the boot through the hole of the original boot, it looks like it will really stretch the boot when I am going through the gears. Should it be that tight?
I replaced the inter rubber shift boot and the leather outer on my car over two decades ago, when these parts were still available over the parts counter... it was one of the few easy things I replaced on any corvette...Lol just a bunch of screws really . The GM factory leather boot was of much higher quality , thicker material than repro replacements I 've seen. it's easy, if I could do,it with zero instructions anybody could
it is possible as with most repro parts they didn't get the size , material or construction right.
maybe a NoS one could be had.?
