on my 68 coupe, the rollers on my window regulators are pretty much shot. i ordered a new set from CC. has anyone changed these rollers out before, i haven't gotten the new ones yet, but i'm assuming that the old ones will have to be drilled out, and then install new ones. how do you "crimp" the new ones in place? thanks, Rick
You grind off the old roller rivet, clean out the hole.
Then you brad the new one over when installing. The rivet soft. so it isn't hard to brad them over.
The rivet is soft as mentioned. I just did mine the other day.
Before you remove them take a magic marker and mark the locations so that you know which side the roller goes on or you will put one on in the wrong direction like I did for one of them.
I locked 3/8 bolt and nut into my vise so that the nut could be tightened above the jaws of the vise and leave about 1/4" of threads showing past the nut so that could be used as the support for the roller side of the rivet while penning over the hollowed out end of the roller rivet with a small hammer.
It helps greatly to have someone support he regulator for you while you do this or just use blocks of 2x4s to crib up the regulator so its level with the roller so you can concentrate on the rivet end.
thanks guys, i ground one of the old ones off tonight and stuck one of the new ones in, fits fine EXCEPT the roller now sticks out further than the old ones??? does this sound right? Rick
