The actual 'web' thickness on the frame(s) up until 1979 were 0.120" thk. So that would've been 11 gauge.
AFTER 1980, this went down to .090" due to weight savings and the big blocks having gone away. {13Ga.}
Birdcage is 14 gauge frame is either the same or 12 gauge
I measured the birdcage cage on my 76 as mid limit 16 guage. I measure steel as a tool maker-machinist-fabricator for a living,
I insist on using the same guage steel when repairing my birdcage and actually returned a piece of sheetstock to Home Depot marked as 16 guage but wasn't. Not even within the low limit tolerance.
