Have a 1982 c3 closed the drivers door today and now it wont open. Both inside and outside levers are working the mechanism inside the door. Does anybody have any ideas?
Worn and bent components in the door can cause this. Its a bit of a pain in the *** to get fixed. You may need to pull the drivers seat, then the door panel. From there you can get to the mechanism for the door latch. Once its open you can replace some parts (clips and the like) and readjust the linkages to get the latch working properly.
before pulling the seat and the door panel off, try jiggling the inside lock **** back and forth while opening the lever. I know there are some other threads on this if you dig.
Yes, push down on the over-ride tab with a long, flat tip screw driver. You should be able to see it from the top, with the window down. See the picture in the thread mentioned!
Be very careful... get that WD-40 on the inside of your door and it will seap through the fiberglass and ruin the paint
You are right sometimes too much of a good thing is not good. When this happened to me i had the door panels off and with some rags i could control the excess. Maybe some brake clean that has denatured alcohol that could be safer.
