Default How to replace rear window clips without removing window

Just finished 2 years of work getting my car back on the road. One of the things I did was replace the rear window clips. I did not want to pull the rear window as it was tinted and I had about a thousand other things to do.

I know I was poking around for a way to replace the trim clips and most advice was to pull the rear window. I found an alternative that seems to be holding up pretty well.

I bought a new set of clips. After removing the trim I managed to remove the broken clips from the rear window without breaking the pins. This required some careful dremel cutting for a few of them but most of them were easy to get out.

I then used the dremel to carve a notch in the back end of the new clip. I made the cut a 'V' right up to the circular hole that the pin would slide into. I tried to leave most of the circular hole intact and make sure that the bottom of the 'V' was just a little smaller that the pin.

I then could tap each of the clips on the existing pins and there would be a little bit of pressure against the pin. I used some strong silicone on the back side of the clips to secure them in place and ensure that they still had some movement to accomodate the flex needed to put the trim back on.

If anyone has questions let me know.
