YAY and RATS....the screw-in rocker studs arrived a day early (YAY),but they will have to wait until Monday to be installed (RATS)
Ya'll keep up the good work!
IN other news: I built a custom 20 gallon fuel tank and installed it several years ago, but the gas gauge kept reading low by more than 1/4 tank.
I just now found the dimension drawing of the tank and recalculated the cubic inches of tank volume-----------29 GALLONS !
Oh well...the PTSD finally worked in a positive direction this time
A BLAST FROM THE PAST-2013......
Uniroyal introduced their new RWL Tiger Paw tires.....and I saved up enough cash to buy a set for my '69 Camaro convertible.
So...I let Precious use my car that day.....
she comes stomping into the house......
Her: "Those new tires are defective!"
Me: Just great....what are they doing?
Her: "The white letters that YOU spent all the money ON are falling OFF!"
Me: THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!
Her: "OH YEAH! GO LOOK!"
Sure enough.....The brand new "T" is missing off the front passenger-side tire.
I looked closer......the "T" had been sheared off!
I go back into the house....."Did you bump any curbs today?"
Her: "Yes...leaving the parking lot at the Winn Dixie.....but what does that have to do with defective tires?!?!"
I drive to the grocery store parking lot and search the pavement at all exits.......THERE'S MY BRAND NEW "T"......against a jagged section of curb!
Me (mumbling to myself): Ohhhh well......where's the tube of rubber cement.

I thank the lord every day for all the warning beaps and cameras on our new Silverado.
It a big, long, 4 door, 4x4 and my wife switches on all the cameras every time she enters a parking lot.

Hahaha ..my aunt needs those cameras....she kept ripping mirrors off her car. Had her garage widened to almost 2 cars with a huge door...still kept ripping off mirrors. Hahaha

please post up your secrets and any tools you think we will need to add.
Seems @Alan 71 mentioned a long extension that was highly recommended to keep from having a temper tantrum.
We still need to check all the electrical.

Hope this helps, FYI a little Heat to the center of the top dash pad makes it flexible or set the pad in the sunshine for a bit.
Youtube.com type in "Willcox videos" there is a ton of good information.

Yep.....18" extension on a 3/8" drive ratchet to install bolts on steering column support at firewall (I tape each bolt in the socket to keep it from falling out as I try to start threading it into the firewall sliding nuts)....removing the seat helps alot.
I loosely install the steering column/wheel so that the bolts are already started.....
then I install the driver gauge panel...then finish tightening all steering column bolts.
Optional:
I also cheated and ordered tach/speedometer cables 12" longer than stock(since both original cables were bad) to make the easier to attach to the gauges....
also spent half a day lengthening all wires that attach to the back of the gauges (per other Members).
Now...if I can find the courage to reinstall everything

I understand...but I have no choice.
After returning to the U.S. I would wake up soaked in sweat, screaming and cursing and not even realize it. My wife would tell me what I did the next morning.
I don't search for the memories...they find me...it's rough seeing things throughout the last 50 years that only fellow veterans can comprehend.

Thank you and ALL the veterans for what you have given to this country.
My hero, my grandpa was in Iwo Jima (marine). He lied about his age, was only 17, to join.
He had the same experience you describe at night, except he would physically grab my grandmother. They had to sleep in separate rooms.
Keep sharing and talking. I CANT BEGIN to comprehend what veterans have to deal with, but can be compassionate and supportive. 🫶🏻 You are appreciated more than you know!

Where did you source the longer Speedo and tach cables?

hey Tony...I suggest not bolting the top dash to the supports so it can move up and down freely. I htknk theres 3 screws on the passenger side and one screw and one nut that goes on a stud built into the top dash. Im working with that right now and it seems to be working. I went to a GPS soeedo and an electric tach conversion. THe tach conversion potentiometer that fine tunes the rpm setting broke so I brought it to work to have one of the Electrical engineers fix it. Just some fancy soldering but I wanted to watch a pro do it. So I had to pull the drivers dash back out and it was in there good....
With the seats out and the center consoles out..
I put the top dash in, then the kick panel, then the drivers dash. Then I put the center shift console in and pushed the drivers dash back in towards the firewall with it until the center console screws lined up. THen the brake console. That got the drivers dash in tight. I had to adjust the tach from the side reaching in through the gauge console and behind the ignition with a long thin philips for the fine tuning. Thats when the tach crapped out so I removed the screws across the top and side of the drivers dash and with the upper dash loose I was able to pull it out enough to disconnect all the bulbs and other stuff holding it in. I hope I can get it back togther but I think the top will be fine, its just that leg that sits on the shift console that will be tough getting in place. WIth the top loose I should be able to lift it up and onto the shift console corner. I think that will be the key for you too.

I measured the original cables and my friend at the auto parts store was nice enough to let me go in the stock room and search thru boxes until I found the longer cables that would work.
You may be able to find a site online that sells specific length cables for GM cars.

R.R. I forgot to mention that the upper dash pad is already installed.

If you have issues, then loosen all those screws and that nut...good luck!
