The gauge lights on my 77 were dim even with new replacement bulbs. I decided to go with LEDs. Man what a PITA it is to change out the speedo/tach bulbs... and who'da thunk they would use different bulbs there compared to the center cluster.
I did it outside in the driveway. I'm an amateur and haven't worked on cars for years. It could be done start to finish in 4 hrs. I did not do the kick panels or dome light. I left them white. I also left the turn indicators and engine lights white. The only ones I put blue in were the "background" lights. It takes 4 each for the speedo/tach, then 1 per instrument in the center cluster.
There are white LEDs so that would look stock and still be bright. I've seen some that were red but they looked orange after they were in the dash. The blue matched the blue car.
