Default question about choke on quadrajet(pic)

just bought new (re-man) Rochester...the choke set up is a little different than the old carb that i'm replacing...the old carb had a nice little round hole for the choke rod to be installed in with the retaining clip, this carb has a slotted hole where i assume the choke rod should go, but the retaining clip does not work (bracket is too bulky)...does anyone know if it requires a different clip or different type choke rod> or what?? LOL....Rick

Swap chokes; put the old original on the new carb.

thank you BOTH! good idea Mike...(Doh!) because the other choke set up is in great shape, and worked fine.....also the pic tells me what type of clip i would need if i use this set up...obviously the rod would need to be grooved, which it is not currently. hmmmmmmm two options! thanks guys...Rick

Easy Mike is correct...
The Quadrajet you originally had was a "Thermostatically controlled Choke" system.
You know the principal behind it...
1. Choke is partially closed (1/4" open)
2. Upon start-up it allows for a "richer" mixture (more fuel than air)
3. When engine "warm-up" begins a tube transfers engine heat to coil of metal and it expands opening up Choke Rod (adjustment to .120") and that leans out mixture by allowing more air in.

Keep us posted on how it goes!

PS: If you need Rochester Carb parts look up:
