I am looking to find a project vette for a couple thousand or less & I found a 74 vette with no title. I live in Charleston WV & the cars I found are in nearby states. How hard is it to get titles for these cars from like a 65-82 models?
found several with no title just thought being a vette there might be a easier way to get a title for these cars. I am looking to sell or trade my 64 T bird & 74 F250 crew for a old vette from 65-82 model & use it on days when weather is nice & use my 85 AMC Eagle when weather is bad. Been a long time since I drove a vette loved it. My uncle let me drive his new 92 with me having a learners permit & had a blast getting it up to 150. Just looking to go old vette this time an make it project car. Looking for running or non running car.
Check with the department of motor vehicles in your state to determine exactly what you need to register a car. What proof from the seller to show he owns the car.
Here you do not need a title on a car older than a 2001 model but there are "other" requirements to satisfy a legal transfer. The registry should be able to explain how to proceed.
I just registered a 2000, no title, and sold a 96 no title and no problem with the dmv because I had the documents they needed. Each state has their own rules.
yea that is what I am planning to do monday morning. Just thought there might be a way around all the bs from the DMV they are not a lot of help in this state on stuff like this.
Every state has different title requirements so you need to find out exactly what your state requires for documentation. Many states didn't issue titles during the earlier (or even later) C3 years. If the seller can't provide all of the documentation that you need then don't buy the car no matter how good the deal is.
For example, the 72 that my son and I bought had no original title (none existed). The owner was deceased so we had to provide a bill of sale, a copy of the owner's death certificate, an affadavit from his wife stating that she was empowered to sell the car, and a copy of the last registration form for the car. Luckily we were able to get all of the documents and the car now has a title. If we decide to sell the transfer will be much easier - bill of sale + title.
yea I tried to get a title a few years back on a 66 mustang convertible an the state dmv was no help an it was going to be $800 from a title company to get a clear title an they was not sure if they could do it or not. I just thought with corvette's clubs an stuff they might know a easy way to go about getting titles for these cars since corvette clubs an places are more popular than several other make an models out there.
