looking at a set of hooker supercomp headers and side pipes , any of you big block guys have problems with fit or anything else that came up. the pertinent facts 72 - 454 - 4 speed with air. i'm pretty sure the A/C compressor mount won't work with headers , other than that what are the problems . any input would be appreciated
thanks for the information , i'm not very enthusiastic about removing parts of the A/C heater box. some modification wouldn't be out of the question though. thanks for the heads up.
You will need to trim some of the fiberglass away near the rear of the lower edge of the front wheelwells, as well as trim your rocker mouldings for the sidemount pipes to fit.
My 69 had a 383 with hooker side mounts then I swapped for a 454 with hooker side mounts, iconically the BB headers were easier to install than the SB
I do not have factory AC but I do not see where the car is cut to clear them on the outside,
Myself I went with OBX stainless for my 69/427.with air.It was a tight fit and I needed to heat the pipes in a few spots to bend a little, but I did not have to cut the glass on the car, or the rocker covers it cleared those areas. They were installed in the spring and so far I am pleased with them.I had no issues with air clearence, the area that was tight for my car was the stearing box.
I have installed 2 sets of hookers. I had to relieve the bottoms of the flanges to clear the head bolts. Grind off 1/8 to 3/16 ths otherwise no problems at all. Sound great look great!
