Automatic shifter **** replacement?
Hi All,
I have had a look but I can't seem to locate a thread on this. Can anyone tell me how to remove the actual 'shift ****' from the shifter shaft. Does it screw off?

don't know the year of your car but on my '81, it just unscrews, first unscrew the small chrome push button, then remove the spring, then unscrew the ****. mine was on pretty tight, ended up using a pipe wrench to get it off and replacing it.

Sorry forgot to mention it is a 79. Yep that worked. A little bit of penetrating lubricant and a bit of muscle and it screwed off. I have learned the hard way to find out how things are 'supposed' to come apart before forcing and breaking them! Thanks for your help.
