402 is black leather, M05 would be August 5th 1969. Serial number 726106 jives with an August 5th build date (Bizzoco lists 726103 and 726182 as the same day).

"Early" and "late" almost always pertain to specific running changes made on the assembly line.

If you want to apply the terms to total production, divide the model year at about #19881.

You could also call in the strike. Cars before the strike could be early; cars after the strike could be late.

And even then there is not a clear cut date. Take the distributor shielding for example. It started off the model year (and in '68) as a two-piece unit and ended as a three-piece unit. When did it happen? Seems like a great Restorer article?

I don't know enough about 68-69 distributor shielding, but my understanding was the 68-69s had a three piece unit that carried over into 1970. The 1970-72 TIMJG shows 1970's up to approx. VIN 5000 had the three piece unit, two piece unit till approx. VIN 12000 (box was spot welded together), then one piece after that.

Assuming you mean for a 1969 corvette: October 14th, 1968.

Mine is 726016. I think my tag was the 4th.
From what I read the plant was closed the week before our cars were built. You may have some 1970 engine components even though the production run went through January.
