New Emblems

over the years as part of my Corvette obsession, I have collected NOS emblems. This started about 25 years ago, and as my wife has stated on many occasions, it's a lot cheaper than collecting the actual cars. I have bought and traded many "grades" of emblems; but have always stayed away from anything that was not an original GM part........just me, not big on the repros - I realize they serve a purpose, just not in my collection.
I bring this up; to discuss how over time, quality has definitely gone down hill. One of the big features I strive for when purchasing an emblem, is to get it in the original GM packaging. Not always possible, but it's nice when it happens.
About a week ago I decided I would like to get the rear Corvette logo that is on the new C7. I'm not really too fussy about the front logo, in fact the only C6 emblem I have is for the 60th anniversary fender. I do realize that the days of pot metal and chrome are long gone. However, with the list price of a new C7 upwards of $80,000 up here, I would have thought that I might receive something that might look a little better than some cheap Chinese eBay knock-off.
First off, look at the size of the box that they ship it in.

Absolutely nothing that denotes it as an actual GM product, not even a part number.

Need I say more......

So I guess I keep this with it to at least prove down the road what it actually is. Yep, almost $28.

Honestly, I don't know if I'm even really surprised anymore. In this day and age, it seems we tend to live in a disposable society. If a product lasts half as long as a comparable one from a decade ago, we consider that a success. The more I look around, I'm not so sure if newer is better. Kudos to you guys that are trying to rebuild your original parts, and keep some of the past alive.
Rant over, have a great weekend one and all.
