Default Loose steering column

Recently purchased a 1975 corvette stingray. The steering column is loose. The column is a tilt wheel. It is not loose at the tilt part but the column going down thru dash. What is the problem and what is the fix ..

I have never messed with mine, but I believe there are two bolts where the steering column goes through the firewall, and two more under the dash (may even be under a plastic cover) that clamp it to the underside of the dash.

Let me be the first to tell you that you need to get the AIM for your car. A wealth of information in there.

The AIM is the Assembly Instruction Manual. It was created by Chevrolet Engineering to instruct the car assembly plant as to how to put the car together. It is NOT a service manual but it is very helpful as to all the nuts, bolts, brackets, washers, and components that go into your vehicle. It will have information on how to assemble parts into your Corvette. It will not have information as to how to fix it.

General Motors has AIM manuals for all of their vehicles. You can purchase the AIM for your year Corvette through most major Corvette suppliers.

The other manual that you should have is the Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual for your year Corvette. It will have a lot of tear down and repair tips. But in a lot of cases it expects a certain amount of expertise on your part. Again it is available from most major suppliers.

(Sometime there is a major Chassis Service Manual for a particular year and then shorter supplements that were issued for features that were added in future years.) You might have to talk to someone at the supplier company as to the one or two manuals that you might require.

Thanks for answering Jim. Haven't been back on the Forum since posting yesterday.

BigClaw, I hope that you can get the steering wheel tightened based on this information.
