I was watching some of the latest auctions last night. Seems like the bids are lower than usual. Many cars not selling.
There was a white 75 convertible corvette, restored it looked like. Last bid was $17,000 and it sold. The auction went through a couple stretches of 5 to 7 cars with no sales, and reserves were a quarter to a third higher than the bidding.
The economy for collector cars must be low I guess with the state of affairs these days.
On Thursday they sold a non-matching red '69 coupe with plastic headlight covers, TT wheels, and all kinds of chrome geegaws underhood for $22.5k. Seemed like pretty strong money for that kind of car...
Let's see what happens in KC next week. Hard to establish "market" pricing based on one market. Different region has different buyers. Most folks on this forum wouldn't pay $22.5K for a 69 coupe especially with after-market items.
Yeah I thought there were a few mid range cars like the ones mentioned that bid pretty strong for what they were, but also there were a lot of no-sales. There also werent a ton of exceptional cars. Very middle of the road selection.
On another note, it has been pointed out that Velocity is advertising the Kansas City auction as the "Network Finale." Not the SEASON Finale but it seems like the last Mecum show on Velocity. Questions posed to Velocity remain unanswered at this time. Stay tuned.
Hi fans, Dana Mecum here. Tune in to Velocity Saturday, December 7 while we're live from #KansasCity. I will personally announce the all-new TV schedule for #Mecum Auctions. BIG NEWS is headed your way!!
I was at the Anaheim auction on Friday. Lots of "bid goes on" and not much action after crossing the block. the bid/ask gap was pretty big. Saw a 32 ford that bidding stopped at $25k, my buddy offered $26k at the bid goes on desk and was told that seller already turned down $26k and was looking for $30k. This car had been on craigslist locally for $38k. Same scenario for a lot of the cars.
