Hello everyone, I thought I would share my easy side lamp stud repair experience. This is especially for restoration projects that can be costly. It saved me $60 (X4) a lamp on replacements cost and I was able to use my original side markers. Sorry Corvette Central..lol!
1. Cut & file flat your broken stud.
2. Drill out your broken stud hole in the center.
3. Screw in 2" hanger bolts/stud - 95 cents at ACE or your local hardware store. (This is a machine thread for use with a hex nut on one end and wood/sheet metal threads on the other). You will need to screw on the hex nut in order to screw in the stud.
(Now if someone could figure out how to fix the stud's on a 1970 grill).
If they are similiar to the 73-74 grilles,I welded a nut to the broken off stud, applied a slight amount of heat to the area around the stud and slowly spun it out.I used my mig,but if you or a friend has a tig that work work even better.
