Default Easy side lamp fix for your C3

Hello everyone, I thought I would share my easy side lamp stud repair experience. This is especially for restoration projects that can be costly. It saved me $60 (X4) a lamp on replacements cost and I was able to use my original side markers. Sorry Corvette Central..lol!

1. Cut & file flat your broken stud.
2. Drill out your broken stud hole in the center.
3. Screw in 2" hanger bolts/stud - 95 cents at ACE or your local hardware store. (This is a machine thread for use with a hex nut on one end and wood/sheet metal threads on the other). You will need to screw on the hex nut in order to screw in the stud.

Default Great idea

This is the kind of thing that If I tried that, I'd run the drill right out thru the lense...lol or split the whole housing.

That's because you are using the wrong drill, the one in your avatar pic is intended for something else, bigger is not always better...

If they are similiar to the 73-74 grilles,I welded a nut to the broken off stud, applied a slight amount of heat to the area around the stud and slowly spun it out.I used my mig,but if you or a friend has a tig that work work even better.
