As said before, I bought this car in the midst of a project. This is the state the console was in (and still is). What's the orange thing?

Can't answer that. That's all that I found, sitting there just like that.
It has got a wire from it going to the white non GM 3 conductor inline plug, that looks like it might have plugged into an aftermarket radio. I could use my imagination, but just wondered if anyone here had ever seen a contraption like that. There's a wound copper wire coil in there.
