73 l82 4 peed stiff
hello everyone, I have a 73 l82 that has been sitting for at least 6 years and i haven't gotten it running yet, putting in rebuilt motor, but trying to shift the car sitting in the shed is almost impossible. Trying to find neutral is tough, would sure appreciate some hints on loosening it up.Drain fluid and put in new fluid, add something to loosen up old oil???? tks....Troy

Check the fluid in the transmission and make certain that it is up to the full level. The more likely cause of the condition is that the shifter is just dry or misaligned. Clean the mechanism and lubricate it with lubriplate. If that lube does not resolve the issue, you will very likely need to readjust the shifter. There is very little room to work under there but you should be able to clean it quite well using carb cleaner or engine cleaner.

They do adjust much like the three speeds but with another gate in the mix. The alignment "key" for the factory Corvette shifter is a flat key and virtually impossible to get into place with the shifter and transmission in the car. It can be done without that key but, it takes patience and a degree of experience to do so.
