Today I was matching up numbers to a book I just bought on the C3 models for this 1976 Corvette. I was doing a paint code look up and I can't seem to find the exact paint code 56L. According to whatever plate is screwed (that's another concern since the plate wasn't riveted) into the door seal, it says that my Red Corvette should be Bright Yellow. Can someone confirm that's what I'm reading?
56 for Bright Yellow. The L usually indicates the lower portion of the body below the belt line. Your trim tag was originally pop riveted to the body. The phillips head screws indicate it has been removed and reinstalled, probably when the red was shot.
That's kind of depressing. The car was purchased because it was supposedly all original.

Can you go back to the seller?
It just burns me up when I see stuff like this happen!
I am with Mike, immediately go back to the seller and start asking questions. If he sold this car to you and you have it in writing that this car is being sold as all original then you should definitely make a stink about this.
If you do not have it in writing, then you are going to have to learn to love and enjoy this car for what it is. It isn't the end of the world. Dissapointing of course that you didn't get what you thought you paid for but it is certainly not a total loss. Keep us updated!
Did you buy this car from a dealer or an individual seller?
There are some shady dealers out there that will do anything to make an extra buck. My dad bought an "all original" 69 427/400 back in the early 90's that had the correct stamped engine, transmission, console plate, etc and when he went to take the body off to complete the restoration the frame had the vehicle stamped as a standard 350/350 car.
The VIN that was stamped in front of the #4 body mount and by the drivers seat did not match the engine/transmission/pillar VIN and using the C3 registry the VIN matched a 350/350 and not a 427/400 as the car was advertised.
They might have put a different frame on the car, or had the engine/transmission stamped to make it a 427/400...who knows! Either way it was not the car that was advertised and extremely decreased in value.
