My blinker lights burnt out again. Third time n 15 months for the rights side blinder and second time for the left. I don't want to have to ask my husband to fix every little thing on my car that goes out. So I enjoy doing the little things myself. Though as simple as they are it seems I always have questions. My son suggested I try LED lights. He thought they may not burn out as quick. So I did, they worked fine when I pressed the brake but wouldn't blink when I put the blinkers on, and they didn't seem as bright. Can anyone tell me why?
A post that I read mentioned that some sort of ?resistor? is needed in the wiring that supplies voltage to the LED lights (because they don't use enough "power" to make the blinker relay work correctly).
As for the lack of brightness...I would guess that you need to check the lumens of the LED "bulb" to make sure it is producing the same amount of light as a clear 12volt automotive incadesent bulb. (I noticed that the LED bulb I installed in my motorcyle brake light was about half as bright in daylight hours as the 12volt standard bulb that I removed....
Thanks for the replies, but since the LED lights are not as bright, I think I'll stay with the incandescent ones. Any suggestions on why they have been burning out so quick?

I think the easiest problem to fix is low quality replacement bulbs. I've had very good luck with the "long life" ones from Walmart. Prior to that, I replaced mine about as often as you have. Mine have now been in there about 4 years.
Doesn't mean that's your problem but if it is, the fix is easy.

I think if you get the right LED's, they're actually much brighter than the standard.
