Engine Noise
Just started my 73 Vette. My brother had and It hasn't started four a year finally got a new battery for it. It started right up but it was very loud. It sounded like clanking noise. Any suggestions on what i should look for before i tear it apart?

Define "clanking." Did you check the oil level before you lit it up?

Checked the oil before starting. Almost like a bang. Probably should take out spark plugs and give them a look at. Also maybe water pump?

Take a video to.give us an idea. . Clanking or big bang could be a hundred things. If you hadn't started in over a year it could have been just a loud back fire or bad fuel in the system not firing right causing nkocking.. does it sound like a metal on metal bang or what?

Maybe a cat hung in the fan shroud.

If it's a manual transmission car, cover plate on bellhousing can give you fits when it grinds against the flywheel

Well automatic trans but i just had it towed here. I dont know going to get my son to video it tomorrow. Dosnt sound like valves it just clanking

Check under your valve covers. Rocker arm maybe loose. Had that happen on my 71 350 corvette.
