Default 73 NCRS question

Hey guys, I've got a quick question that I cannot find an answer to online or through the forum search. I am working on an NCRS build on my 73 454 4speed car (hopefully top-flight someday but we'll see how this goes). When I bought the car it came with a small block out of a Buick so of course nothing matches and I am slowly piecing things together. I have pieced together most of the accessories but am still missing an alternator pulley. I am currently discussing purchasing one from a very knowledgable member but would like to gather some knowledge myself. Aside from the fact that I require a 3" pulley, is there anything else I should know? Material type, painted or coated, any stamped numbers, etc. Any information regarding this or anything 73 specific would be amazing. Thanks!

NCRS answer= Buy the correct Judging Manuals for your particular model.

CF C3 General Question? Why not ask your question on the NCRS forum?

Surely, someone will check in with your answer!

Stop calling people Shirley. Thank you for not mentioning the dreaded three letters (acronym for a book name) that upset some people despite being the best possible recommendation.

AFAIK, it's a stamped steel pulley, don't remember anything special about it. Haven't looked closely at an original LS4 in years so won't guess.

He has or had the greatest original tires for the car.

Better grab them if he still has it.

I think Silver Devil changed his username though but I don't know what it is now.

My pleasure!

I knew you had a sense of humor!

One day, hopefully, I will get to meet, in person, the great protector of the NCRS reputation!

Alternator pulley (LS4), per the 73-74 NCRS manual, were equipped with a silver cadmium, deep groove alternator pulley with a center hub machined from solid stock. In contrast, L48/L82 engines were equipped with a zinc plated pulley, stamped from sheet stock. The difference is plated & stamped versus machined & deep groove.

Hope this helps!

Also...FYI, apparently, a couple of different alternators were used on the LS4 depending on the A/C with power steering options. GM 1100950 (42 amp) with broadcast code RF and GM# 1100544 (61 amp) with code RH. The GM# 1102353 was used on the LS4 42 amp and carried and broadcast code KA. Alternators were mounted upside down so the part numbers could not be read from above.
