I have a 69 and have seen that you can use the Hurst unit with an after market shifter that looks stock. Does anyone out there have this setup and an opinion.?????
i had it on my 73, the rev. lock out is just a simulated. shifter handle had to be heated and bent to fit side to side. but all in all, never missed a shift afterwards
I had one on my 69 and it worked great, but like the previous poster said it seemed like the shift handle was located too far to the left. It hit the console in reverse. I was able to shim it to where it worked OK but I wasn't proud of that solution.
It's spring loaded, so that you can lift it up, just like a stock shifter. The difference is, it doesn't do anything when you lift it......except maybe fool the car show judges.
Can you use the stock ball, since I have a 69 with the black chrome that I would like to use.
Yes. The one on Lupigiato's car is chrome, because it's a 68. 68's (and 64-67's) used chrome *****, while 69-81's used a black chrome ball. Other than the type of chrome, used on the ball, the diameter and thread is the same for all 64-81 Corvette manual shifter *****.
