Hey guys, I am looking at a 74 that looks like it has a small crack in it's front bumper near the point . It is actually looks busted in close up views. I am not familiar with repairs on these bumpers. Could this be a big problem or can these bumpers be repaired satisfactorily. Car is on Auto trader in Arizona. Thanks for any reply.
Even if it could be repaired it's probably too brittle. Replacement with another urethane cover would be easier but more expensive while a fiberglass cover is cheaper and looks better but possibly more work to get a good fit.
If it's an original bumper, you're wasting your time trying to fix it. The urethane is shrinking from age and will crack somewhere else in short order.
You are going to have to paint it anyway, buy a fiberglass replacement and have it painted to match, and you will be happy.
Now, the front is harder to match in sometimes compared to the rear(in my case), you may have to have some bodywork done.
I installed a Trueflex replacement bumper from Wilcox on my 73 and have nothing but good things to say about it.
As said above , don't waste your time trying to fix the original , it's probably either cracked somewhere else that you can't see yet or will be in short order.
