Default Hooker Headers and sidepipes

Hey guys, I found a used set of Hookers headers and sidepipes complete with everything else (mufflers, mounting hardware, etc) for $700. It has slight surface rust, but the seller claims that they're in perfect working order. If the above is correct, would this be a good deal for the set? I would assume yes, but I'm not 100% sure how well headers and sidepipes hold their value.

Thanks,
Curtis

I guess they aren't stainless steel? Chromed? Sounds like your buying decision is based on affordability / price first, performance second, and appearance is the least of your concern. I have stainless and do not have a blemish on them. Can you live with imperfect appearance? Have you seen them? Only you can decide price/value. Appearance is important to me. I'd rather save my pennies and buy new, than settle for rust and have it bug me every time I looked at it. But, that's just me. Good luck with your decision.

I think $700 is way too much for that set. Thats alot of money for slight surface rust. I bought my set used with no rust at all in great shape for $300 and that was a big block. I think you should keep looking.

I am on a bit of a budget, and I was planing on replacing my headers anyway when I rebuild my engine. My exhaust definitely needs to be replaced, its rusted pretty bad. I was planning on sanding them down and giving them a coating of some sort of heat retardant, and I don't see why they wouldn't look good.

EDIT: And no, as they are rusted, they are not stainless or chromed.

You found a complete set of big block hookers sidepipes and headers with mufflers and all the mounting hardware for $300?! Is that commonplace? If so, I've really overestimated the value of this set.

Yes and that was for a nice driver condition. I was looking for a few months. Now when I first went looking for a set, I found a member here selling a set that had been chrome once, then sanded down and painted black. That set only costed me $175. they had a few little dents in them but they worked. So if you plan on sanding them down to look betta, then your paying way way too much. If you have the time I would wait. Do you have pics of the set your looking at ?

The weekend before last I picked up a set of Hooker chrome BBC side pipe headers, side pipe tubes, stock mufflers, and hardware for $200.

The chrome on the headers in the underhood portions is worn off, the portions that stick out of the fenders are decent driver quality, and the tubes are very nice.

I feel the set I bought is worth more than $200..maybe top value up to about $400.

Edit...the set you are looking at is too expensive at $700. You can do better.

Yeah, looking at that picture, they are in no way worth $700. I would not pay more than $200 for that set.

Good luck with your hunt! Whatever you do, either buy the headers with ceramic coating or have them coated before you install. Ask me how I know - UGH!

Now that the hunt is back on, a few general questions:

Did you guys choose the resonated or non resonated side pipes? Does anyone know how loud the resonated pipes are compared to stock exhaust? I'm looking at the OBX series now

First off, go to on to youtube. Some have posted what the differences are. Also do a search thru CF read thru the different posts where other member have discussed the loudness. It will depend on what you want to hear or do not want to hear.
