I have a Comp valvetrain, but my engine builder recommended PRW as they are built VERY well and are less expensive. He has run them in his race engines and never had a failure. I've held both a comparable Comp my PRW in my hand and agreed with him. Just as another option...

With full roller rockers I believe you will need the tall valve covers or at least an extra gasket or maybe a spacer on the short valve covers to get them to fit over the rollers.
If you get roller tip only then you can still use the stock short valve covers.

My stock finned valve covers had the drip rails cast into the top, so I'd tend to believe Mr. Reelav8r that those would be in conflict with a bearing mounted roller rocker. You could either replace with tall valve covers (which can be a pain with your alternator belt lengths and such), put spacers on, or cut down the drip rails.

Because the rollers are mounted on needle bearings, the need for the drip rails is greatly diminished or even eliminted.

Simple roller tip rockers that still use the cup mounts aren't nearly as much of an upgrade, IMHO.

Other than the wow factor when the valve covers are off, why not buy a set of readily available rockers that you like?

Roller rockers offer benefits in any engine they get installed into but for a street motor, you end up spending more cash to accomodate them, for reasons already explained.

If you had monster open-valve seat pressure numbers to deal with, that's one thing but if not, even stock stamped steel works great up to a point. If your engine won't RPM to that point, then rollers are a nice feature with minimal return.

If the budget allows, go for it but when you're positioned like several of us, think of the cash saved for something else (there's always something else with these cars) and enjoy the engine performance, as is.

Good luck, whatever direction you choose. Keep us posted.

Heh i have done the stamped rockers with roller tips but had one fail after only 4 outings the supplier was great and replaced it and offered discount if i am purchasing any other type.
so i would rather replace with top quality rocker now ,i went stamped because of reasons stated eg: rocker covers but i was not aware till now about the spacers available so am debating that or some ,i saw orange with chevrolet on it ,like the stock look so prob go spacer and keep original covers.Still looking what brand as shipping always seems the problem can add heaps to cost so might go with what i can find here eg comp or crane.
thanks heaps for all the help from Ian

I installed Harlandsharps roller rockers after replacing the valve seals on my L48, still using the original valve covers, just used thick gaskets for clearance. Auto car with 3:08 gear set, 21mpg. Next; Dewitt's dual spal fan. Having fum modding!
