I'm making a rookie guess that GM didn't want the car to have a stiff "go-cart" ride back in the day....it wouldn't make for good publicity.
Adjust the tire pressure to the pressure recommendation on the sidewall of the tires.....if the ride feels too stiff---reduce the pressure by 3 pounds in each tire....
(I keep max recommended pressure in the tires when going on long trips for better mpg)
