Default Side pipe insert survey

I have watched all kinds YouTube videos and trying to figure out how loud and how quiet side pipes are. And to me it's just not much help. So maybe you guys can help me out this way. What kind of inserts are you using? From 1 to 10. 1 being you can't hear them and 10 is like open headers.
I'm thinking in about 3 weeks buying the OBX headers hand side pipes.
I really need your help and thanks in advance.

I have the Hooker side Pipes and glass pack inserts

with 3.73 gear I would say at WOT it is loud 7ish, you got to yell at each other and the radio is drowned out

normal driving is fine 3-5ish just a good deep sound normal conversation is possible radio is audible for sure

I would recommend you take a ride in one to get the real picture

If I am outside and my wife turns onto our road, 1.5 miles from house and jumps on car ( first gear run up >5000RPM) I can hear it

Hope this helps

I keep seeing if you want side pipes then invest in hearing aid for later in life. Dont think there is a quiet side pipe that wont rob you of performance.

On the STS inserts you can change the sound level by how big a hole you put in the end. I modified them with a removable cap so the range changes from 5 (can hold a conversation) to 8 (just here to drive).

Buy the loudest pipes......then use baffles (as other members said) to get the sound that you like....

that way, you're not stuck with quietpipes.....

nor will you have to spend time "drilling out" quiet pipes to get the sound level that you like.

I bought Sweet Thunder inserts for mine. 2.25" baffle tube size. They offer 5 different sizes for the 4" sidepipe.

I agree that the farther you press the accelerator down, the louder the exhaust.

In warm weather, I listen to the radio a little over half volume, most of the time because my hearing has suffered through the years. It's not so rude to **** off the locals but like many Big Bore V-twin 4-strokes, they know where you are.

In town, I can keep mine civil around 4 (by scale offered in this post) and it can get loud enough autocossing (8, maybe 9) that people can follow the car.

Hi

and he said their was only one kind that would fit
There is at least 2 different inserts for the HOOKER side tunbe.

The ordinary 2,5 " and a 2,5 " with 2 different sound absorbing systems, later one being the suggested by them as it is very popular apparently.

I am tending for that setup.

You can get a pair of HOOKER max flow glasspacks for the price of 1 ea of their mufflers.

Default Vette Packs all the way!

I just installed my Classic Chambered VettePacks into my hooker side pipes a few hours ago.

I originally had open pipes, which had me in the category of "Loudest street driven car in the La Crosse area"... They were VERY VERY loud at low speeds and with the car pulling away from stops. Cruising wasn't that bad. I liked it but knew it was a sound police magnet. Out of 10 they were a 15 ---Not joking- open headers were actually more quiet with less "drone" at all RPM's.

Then I dropped $190 on a pair of 4 inch Dynatech insert cones, which were still so loud that 2 nice cops came to talk to me about 2 weeks ago. Something about starting up a very loud car at 6:15 every morning... I had passed by and pulled away from stops next to a half dozen local cops and troopers without so much as a second look, but a neighbor complained enough to force them to visit me and chat. They never even asked me to fire it up for proof.

Out of 10 the cones were a 9.5 or 10

I ordered some VettePacks from Classic Chambered and as it was mentioned before, they're made to order so it took a little under 2 weeks to get to my door. Having to leave my car parked for that period of time was torture, but after the first ride with the inserts in I'm VERY satisfied with my choice.

They're extremely toned down now, enough to allow me to actually relax as I drive it around town, but at idle and on the throttle the CC inserts let plenty of sound pass through. I thought they were almost too quiet at first, but going from open pipes to muffled will do that. It has all the attitude I need without screaming "look at my loud car".

They're pretty pricey, but worth every penny. I'm sticking with the VettePacks for sure.

Out of 10, to me, they're probably a 6.5.

I promised Eric at Classic Chambered a good review if I liked them, and I couldn't be happier with the product they're producing. The sound is, for a lack of better words, beautiful. Exactly the sound I was looking for.

I can cruise around and chat with a passenger, while I can still hear every movement of my right foot on the throttle.
