Default Wiring harness madness!!!

OK, here in the Midwest it has finally warmed up to a balmy 10 degrees. Im trying to get my head wraped around a project 69 that i walked away from about three years ago dur to Family and Money demands. Its been in a climate controlled building the intire time and everything is exactly as it was when i pulled the plug on this project in March of 2011. ive read and re-read from the AIM and from you'all post about the corect routing of the main dash wiring harness. Im convinced its just not possible to due as per AIM!! I have to go over the steering collum. This however leaves a very few of the conections impossible without me splicing into my new harness. I don't want to splice the harness because years of prior splicing is what fueled me to replace it in the first time... Any good advice out there??? any great pictures of your solutions??? I want this project done right

Couple of questions...

Are you reusing the original harness?

If so, the routing for the main dash harness is under the gauges up through early 1970... After that, it is over the gauges.

If you are using a reproduction harness, you will need to check with the manufacturer to see what they sold you is accurate for your application.

Having determined the "correctness" and routing of your harness, what exactly isn't fitting correctly?

Regards,

Stan Falenski

I installed a quality aftermarket harness in the '68...

but first, I had to put it in direct sunlight for an hour to make it as flexible as possible (any method you use to warm it up would help)

I also used large zip-ties to hold it in place tightly as I routed it.

I also had to remove some of the main harness wrap to get more "slack" in the individual wires--it helped a LOT.

It took 3 tries and a few forum searches for me to figure out the above method....LOL.

Take your time/stay warm---harness too!

Suit yourself. The harness in my 68 is installed exactly as shown in the AIM.

Use a good quality stock replacement harness (LectricLimited) and follow the AIM diagrams.

I'm just checking in.....it's definitely not a fun/easy job....it takes a lot of fitting-as-you-go (the first two times---I said NO WAY!)
