Default Removing 68 ignition switch?

Is there a trick to removing the ignition switch? I want to repaint the dash panels and I have everything off of the left lower except the switch.
I have unscrewed the nut, but now it has gotten tight on either the threads or the tumbler part and I can't get the nut off without me getting aggressive and doing some damage to the nut.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Craig

Insert a paper clip in the small hole, when it touches bottom, push it a little more. Put in your key and turn past acc. Dont forget to kill the battery first. The tumbler will come out, then unscrew the nut. Been a few years since I did it, pretty sure that was the process.

I saved these instructions in the past:
Similar to John65's instructions:

If you look at where the key goes in just to the side you will see a small hole (about the size of a paper clip). Turn the key to "acc" then insert a paper clip in the small hole. It should feel like it is pushing in on a spring. (because it is) The key and tumbler (inner part of switch) can then be pulled out towards you. At that point the retaining screw will be able to turn that last amount and allow easy removal. Reverse the process to reinstall

The tumbler in my '68 ignition gave me a 20 minute hassle before it finally released in order for me to remove the retainer nut (the nut will not fit over the tumbler bezel).

Be sure to install the retainer nut first when putting the ignition key-switch back into the panel.....THEN install the tumbler after the retainer nut is tightened.

Thanks guys, It came right off after I followed your directions. I had tried using a paper clip but didn't have the key in and of course that didn't work.

I took mine out today and couldn't get it with a paper clip. Just wanted to document for the next guy that a 1/16" pin punch made this much easier. You could also use the non business end of a 1/16" drill bit too. Either way much stiff than a paper clip.
