Default Factory A/c Question

I am looking at a 75 Stingray that has had all of the a/c parts removed from under the hood. In order to replace the parts - what all are we looking at needing ? I am trying to get an idea of total cost.
Can someone with A/C knowledge give me a list of needed parts?
Thanks

Condensor, Compressor, lines, evaprorator, AC boxes that bolt to firewall,
VIR valve or POA depending on what was originally installed, vacuum lines.
Your looking at probably over $1000. in used parts.
Find a car in a local wrecking yard and prepare to spend a half day pulling all of it

I'm in the same boat; P.O. removed (probably sold) the compressor, dryer, and a few other lines from the car. But the rest of the system components are there, so if I think $300 to get it together, will probably be closer to $600.

A rebuilt original A6 compressor, runs about $250, and a modern replacement one is about a hundred more.

A set of used compressor brackets will cost you at least $100, and about $170 for new ones.

A condenser is $275, and the brackets go for about $30 each new or $40-45 for a pair of used ones.

The main hose assembly is $110, while most of the other lines, you'll have to find used.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with putting in a used compressor, condenser or main hose assembly, so your looking at about $600 just for those items. Your easily looking at another $300-400 in parts, and that's if the evaporator, heater box/core/hoses, VIR, switches, etc are all still there. Don't forget to figure in freight, if you can't get them locally, plus the cost of having the system charged, once it is installed.

The heater works so the heater core is there along with any interior parts. Once i can see the car i can get a better idea of what else was saved, if anything.

Is your car being restored to its original condition, or do you simply want a daily driver that you can use in comfort (these are not necessarily mutually exclusive). If you wish an original restoration, you have no choice but original. If you simply wish comfort, suggest you explore aftermarket conversions. There are 2 that forum members tout (do a search). I used Vintage Air and got a new modern system that was well documented and not a difficult install. I paid approx. what you will end up paying for 35 year old original parts that were less functional when designed (see VIR - a GM p.o.s.) than current technology.

I have my parts from a 75. If you want them, you can have 'em. I went with VintageAir for the same reasons as everyone else.
