....I feel badly i never had a stock hood, well...yes I do, I have a 73-79 front clip on my 69 the hood is about a 73 ( feel free to clue me what years had my hood ) and with the small bock and performer regular not rpm and a really low crappy air cleaner it barely fit and I do mean barely,
So I left the hood unlatched and setting on a zombie hand
I believe my 77 hood is the same as 79. I have an RPM Performer intake with a 750 Holley mounted to it, topped off by a stock vette drop base air cleaner and it fits. This is on a big block motor and there is still room to spare.

I have no idea why but I now have a 454 in my same car it runs the performer intake and edelbrock carb, actually same carb I had on the small block it has less hood cleance than the small block did....perhaps the carb on mine is taller....weird
As noted the performer fits easily with a drop base air cleaner on a 350 motor.
But you may want to use a 13 inch air cleaner so it doesn't touch
the distributor.

That's my clearence problem right now. Installed a HEI distributor and it really is crammed up next to the stock air cleaner. And the Performer manifold makes for a really tight hood fit too.
Where are these drop base/smaller air cleaners sold?
