My Silver '75 Vette
My father was thinking of getting rid of his '75 Vette that had not been used in about 10 years and asked if I was interested.
The good:
Body & Paint - very good shape - about a 5 footer - some small scratches
Engine - solid
Suspension - front was replaced 10-12 years ago
Brakes - new, replaced 10-12 years ago
Headlights - work!
The bad:
Radiator - Leaking
Rear trailing arms - hurting
Interior - from dash down - very, very rough
Seats - nothing left in them (good from far, far from good)
Radio - not present
Clock - doesn't work and adjustment **** broken off.
Carpet - Nasty
AC - not working, looks like most of it is removed.
So this summer I chose to take the challenge and get it roadworthy. Ordered a new radiator and rear trailing arms and got her back on the road this fall. I have been slowly working items:
Emergency brake - I was able to get it work correctly but plastic handle is cracked
Tachometer - works but was off, ordered a new one but did not work - but was able to calibrate the old one to seem close.
Horn - fixed - works great
Replace a couple small interior trim pieces - but many, many more to go.
Passenger door power window not working correctly - but does work with some hand help.
Also passenger door is very hard to open from the outside.
All that said I am slowly getting items completed on it.
I does feel like every step forward has a step back - not much on a 39 year old car comes apart easy and goes back on correctly.
Good example: Left side view mirror broke yesterday - tried to tighten it and bolt snapped off - could not back it out or drill it out successfully.
Thank you all for the help/input on the forum - great source of how to fix issues and lessons learned.
Car is fun to drive (great low end torque and feel of sitting so close to rear wheels).
I get a ton of waves, thumps ups, pictures taken in parking lots, then any other car I have owned - including my last ride (2004 Porsche 911 cabriolet).
Thanks again for everyones input of the forum
