Default 77 - power window issue

My passenger side window motor cut out and in a few times and has now finally stopped all together. Now just as when it cut out in the past it acts like it was not there at all, no noise, no struggling or clicking, just nada.

I started looking into it and I am seeing 12v as expected to the drivers side console switch, but only 2v to the passenger.
If I jumper the red center pin from the passenger lead to the up/down wires to the drivers door motor I get 12v as well. I verified both rocker switches are working also.

I know the issue is in the passenger door - either a bad motor or a bad ground. I tried grounding the motor body with a strap to see if it resolved the issue with no luck so far.

My question is this - is what I am seeing consistent with what you guys have seen when a motor goes bad? It seems to be frozen in place so getting out will be a bear. Also if it is just not making a good ground what exactly have you guys done to remedy?

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Sharkwagon, I had some problems with my drivers side window. I actually replaced the motor and regulator to find out that the actual problem was with the switch.

The motor is not really that hard to get out, you just need to carefully pull the window up to it's highest point before attempting to remove the motor.

Having someone to hold the window in place at the top is very helpful.

Hope that helps...

My regulator and window don't move at all to allow access to the bolts. I am really starting to think the motor is locked up and that is my problem, I just wonder if what I see with the meter supports the motor being shot.

Got the motor out, it was a pita as the window was in the down position and the motor froze. Nothing I tried could get the motor to turn, doesn't look like a ground - looks like motor is shot. Time to shop for a new one.

I finally got around to putting in the new motor from Willcox, and it works like a charm. Look like it was the motor that froze after all.
Now my passengers motor goes up like a new car but my drivers window goes up like a 40 yr old car...lol

I have plenty of lefts in stock..

Since your original issue, I've made a help page on the website for this. I thought I'd post it here for those down the road.

My right side motor acts "tired" - weak - stops short of all the way up about 2" as it starts to press against the rubber seals - I open the door and it will go up the rest of the way.
Thoughts??

For $80-$100 it is a cheap fix to replace the motor if you are handy. Good chance your motor is going out.
If you disconnect the motor and have trouble moving the window up and down it might just need adjustment and grease.
