Hello, I was dismantling my steering column to reach the 4 main bolts and tighten them due to the column being wobbly. Heard that this is a very common situation, Got the bolts tightened down down also with some thread-lock. However the issue is as I was re-assembling the column, a part came out and I have no idea where it came from. I was just slipping the center column (that holds the turn signal mechanism on the left) and this small metal clip or spring fell out. Not sure if it was from something else or if it is in fact from the turn lever mechanism. I have searched and searched for a exploded diagram of the turn signal mechanism to no avail. Does anyone recognize this part??? Thanks in advance.

Your AIM should show all components. I agree with '75, Jim Shea is the expert on steering system assembly and has published a lot of helpful white papers. You might also try going to Wilcox websites they offer year specific white papers and install guides which may offer additional info. I have two early C3's and that part you show is not familiar, so might be a later C3 component. Good luck!
I think that's a spring that goes under the "rack" that's moved by turning the ignition switch. It holds it up so the gear doesn't jump a tooth. Here's a picture of the rack.

Yes, I think that it is the rack preload spring. Here is a blowup of the column head. You can see the spring right under the switch actuator rack in the top schematic.
The rack, sector, and the "grasshopper" spring are in the Wilcox pic above but not your leaf preload spring.

It is the "Pre-load Spring". I had to remove the center pivot pins (again) to gain access to it. Thanks to everyone's input!
Waiting for the new top bearing and the Horn Contact Retainer to arrive so I can finish out the re-assembly. Then on to the next with is testing and repairing the tach and the speedometer. The speed works, but the odometer does not move. It just makes a clicking sound.(annoying)
