Seeing as we bought our car on impulse with little knowledge of what to look for, then joining this forum and reading all the horror story's about bad bird cages, I have always had a pit in my stomach that the upper area around the windshield was bad. I had checked the lower kick plate areas and nothing more than little surface rust, and yesterday I had to pull the interior A pillar pieces, the glove box, and instrument cluster out. I have to say I was more than pleased to see light surface rust only on the most upper part where the T-tops are. I feel we lucked out. I will put some POR-15 on the areas that need it, I'm even thinking that might not be a bad thing on the surface rust here and there under the dash, prime and repaint just to stop the rust that is already there, but now I don't feel so bad going forward with the car.
That's always nice to, I'm still holding my breath on mine. I did get a bit of a look at the upper left side, it looked good from what I can see and lower sections behind the kick panels only have surface rust on them so I may be lucky. The PO did say he checked the bird cage for rust and it was ok but then you never know... at any rate, congrats
The potential bird cage issues, are a little known concern, for the novice Corvette buyer.
People who are members of this forum, are well versed on the issues/examples of the problem areas, and where to inspect for them.
Unfortunately, more often then not, people discover these issues, and this site, after they have already purchased their Corvette.
Glad things are working out with your purchase Tooonz.
