What is the best place to get reproduction paint? I'm looking for an aerosol can to do some small touch up spots. I have found carpaintonline.com and expresspaint.com which seem to have the color. I need Spectra Red 75 / WA7211 for my 81. It seems to be about $25 a can. Any other ideas?
Just another quick comment: You may want to test that lacquer (if you're determined to use it) on an inconspicuous spot on that toy Vette. No telling for sure what type of plastic it's made of , and some lacquers will literally melt the plastic that many toys and models are made of.
Don't laugh, but I've been using finger nail polish on paint chips for years. There are literally hundreds of shades, and now metallics are popular. If you don't find a perfect match, you can mix shades.
I should also mention that my toes are a thing of beauty now.
There is no way paint mixed by the code and shipped can match. Your car has probably been painted at least once. And if not, how much sun fade over the past 35 to 50 years? It has to be eyeballed.
I would unscrew the gas door and take to a local paint store and have them color match the paint. You will have to determine the type of paint you have: lacquer, enamel or base coat/ clear coat. If it is base coat/ clear coat, to get the gloss, I would use a small brush with color coat. After it is dry then brush some clear in the chip to build up to the surrounding surface.
