Life is never easy. The body mounts on my 1970 coupe were degrading/missing in all but one location so I got the bright idea I would simply jack up the body and replace them. Of course with these old cars, simple is not on the list...LOL.
I had noticed the #2 bolt was broken off when I purchased the car. After soaking for week in Kroil and attempting to weld a nut on top, it still would not budge. Here is the final result after 3 hours of cussing and discussing.
I had the body lifted about 4" so work room was limited. I ended up drilling a 1/4" hole into opposite sides of the nut and splitting it off with a chisel. My plan is to machine a square 1/2" thick plate with a threaded hole that will just fit into the remaining bracket.
The correct repair would be to remove the body and weld on a new mount with nut, I am just not ready to start the off frame restoration right at this moment.
Oh Gawd... bringing back bad memories! Three of my four caged nuts were like that. The two #3 mounts disintegrated as I turned the bolt heads. The rust was so bad that everything just fell away, cage nut and the retainer. One of the #2 mount bolts I had to take a SawsAll to. I swore I would never do that again. I'll just experience sympathy pains when I see pictures like yours.
